KSCR Review: If you saw Bradford Cox on the street, you might wanna kick his ass. He is the single most unassuming rock star I have ever seen, but the Deerhunter, Lotus Plaza, and Atlas sound powerhouse makes some of the most unabashed, killer tunes of the last two years. Hot off the success of not one, but TWO 2008 Deerhunter masterpieces, Cox keeps the ball rolling with this latest release from the most solo of his projects.

He has stated in interviews that he was tired of being introspective. You won’t find any ballads about agoraphobia or boredom here. Instead, we get circular noise-pop masterpieces that are more instantly catchy than any Microcastle tracks. Take absolute album standout “Walkabout.” The track is the culmination of Noah Lennox’s (AKA Panda Bear of Animal Collective) sampling lessons for Cox. Cox seems to have gotten the message as “Walkabout” is not only a standout on the album, but a contender for track of the year. Cox leaked this song very early in the summer, and let me tell you this: play this thing at night going down the PCH and your life will be complete. The rest of the album is certainly fantastic, which is exactly what we expect of Cox at this point. Nobody does prolific quite like Bradford Cox. What? He’s working on a new Lotus Plaza album? Not surprised. In fact, I’ll be expecting another masterpiece soon. RIYL: Deerhunter, Lotus Plaza, No Age, Animal Collective
Notes: PLAY WALKABOUT!
