KSCR Review: CD 2 of Bullets and Octane’s “Laughing in the Face of Failure” contains a CD release of an album they released on i-Tunes this past April. The album was the self-titled “Bullets and Octane” although it’s not the band’s first album. It succeeds 2007’s “Song For the Underdog” (see CD 1) and is a considerably faster and harder release. Whereas the songs on CD 1 all tend to range from three to three and a half minutes in length, the average song length for this CD is two and a half minutes with the longest song clocking in at 2:55. Since this CD has the same number of songs as the first one it comes in at about 8 minutes shorter overall. This is the “more punk” CD of the two and it’s a solid collection of punk / hard rock songs. The singer’s voice has more of an edge on these recordings and he has a vocal style that could appeal to hard rock fans as well, somewhat resembling Steven Tyler in his later years. Musically they’re very tight and it shows. So give them a try.
